Apple Watch: Raise to Record
Capture a voice note from your wrist — that is Raise to Record in ideaShell.
In a busy day, catching a fleeting thought quickly matters. Raise your wrist and recording starts immediately, so nothing slips away. For professionals, creators and anyone who needs to capture on the spot, it means no more fumbling for your phone.
Why Raise to Record matters
The value here is convenience. Ideas tend to arrive while you are busy with something else — walking, commuting, juggling. Raise your wrist, say the thing, and the moment is kept without interrupting what you were doing. Hands-free means you never stop to find a device. Apple Watch and ideaShell together let capture fold into the day, so creativity is not broken up.
Installing ideaShell on Apple Watch
You need ideaShell on both your iPhone and your Apple Watch. Here is how:
- On iPhone: if you have not already, download the latest ideaShell from the App Store.
- On Apple Watch: once it is on your iPhone, ideaShell appears in the list of available watch apps. Open the Watch app on your iPhone, scroll down to ideaShell and tap Install to sync it across.
Setting up the double tap gesture
- Turn on Double Tap: enable Double Tap and set it to Smart Stack, then add ideaShell to the stack.
- Add to the Smart Stack: on the watch, swipe up from the bottom of the face, press and hold a Smart Stack card, then add the ideaShell card and pin it to the top.
On a watch older than Series 9 you can get a similar result with AssistiveTouch. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > AssistiveTouch, turn it on, then set the double-pinch gesture to show widgets and the single pinch to select.
Using Raise to Record
Once it is set up there are two ways to use it, both as simple as lifting your arm:
- Open the app or double tap: when you want to record, open ideaShell, or raise your wrist and tap your index finger and thumb together twice.
- Speak: recording starts on its own. No need to touch the screen — just say what you are thinking.
- Review: the voice note saves into ideaShell automatically, ready to read or edit on your iPhone or any connected device.
Raise to Record on Apple Watch takes capture to a new level of convenience. Whether you are an artist, a writer, a founder, or simply someone with a lot of ideas, it makes sure none of those moments get away. Install ideaShell and let your watch become the tool that catches ideas wherever you are.
Note: Raise to Record requires watchOS 9 or later and works on Apple Watch Series 4, Ultra 1, SE and newer.
